One of my absolute favourite pieces of clothing is the maxi skirt. You can never have too many!
Over the past few years, the maxi skirt (and dress) have gained popularity in the Western world. Gone are the days where you would have to have a long, modest skirt custom made. Now you can buy them anywhere!
What I love about this item of clothing is how versatile it is. You can dress it up or down just by changing your top, adding or removing accessories. It’s the perfect piece of clothing for a hot summer’s day or even a crisp autumn one. It looks effortlessly chic and can be worn with anything.
For those that are looking for more volume, I would recommend tulle or chiffon skirts. With the extra layers of fabric, they’re very pretty and feminine. Again, you can dress them up by adding a structured blazer for a formal look, as shown by the model in the printed skirt. Or you can dress them down by adding a simple long-sleeved t-shirt, similar to the one worn by the model in the black and white photo.
If you’re looking for a more simple, everyday look, why not try a jersey skirt? A word of caution here: some jersey skirts can be rather clingy and tight, so if you’re looking for a more modest look, aim for a fuller skirt that will have a nice fall of fabric.
Jersey skirts are lightweight and are perfect for a day of running errands or hanging out with friends, since they’re easy to breathe in and again, look effortlessly chic. Again, you can add a blazer for a more professional look, or a cardigan for a comfy look, or even a plain button down for a chic look. There are so many ways to style them!
If you want to break the rules a bit, why not try a South Asian lengha paired with a shirt or blazer? Lenghas are South Asian skirts, often worn by brides on their wedding day or worn to weddings in general. They can be quite fancy, with their intricate bead work and designs, so I wouldn’t recommend you wearing your bridal lengha out, but something a bit lighter. So try to mix East and West together, by pairing a lengha with a simpler top, like the model in the last picture on the bottom right. It’s quite a bold look!
Those are just some of my tips for styling and wearing maxi skirts, which look quite stylish, but are also very modest. It’s a win-win! For links to the above photos and more photos of maxi skirts, check out my Maxi Skirt board on Pinterest. Hope you found this useful!
Keep smiling, beautiful girls!
