I’ve often stumbled upon a super cute midi skirt, full of pleats or with a fun print or with a full voluminous body, only to realise it falls shy of my ankles by a few inches.
While maxi skirts easily provide ample coverage, midi skirts come in varying lengths. Some start right after your knee while others end a few inches above the knee. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear them at all! How you wear a midi skirt all depends on how comfortable you are; maybe you’re on the short side and a midi skirt fits you perfectly, or maybe there’s a few inches of bare leg that would show.
The easiest way to modify a midi skirt is by wearing leggings or tights. I’m not talking about the sheer ones, but the solid opaque leggings. Depending on how short the skirt is, you might have a different amount of leg showing. Leggings still reveal the shape of the leg, so that’s also something you’ll need to keep in mind when deciding if you’re comfortable with this look.
Black leggings are always the easiest to pair up with any coloured skirt, but if you want to mix things up a bit, why not try a dark grey or brown or even mustard colour for the Fall? This look is so versatile because you can change up the colour of the leggings with the same skirt and have a whole new look!
Depending on how long the skirt is, you might even be able to get away with dark stockings or socks.
If you go with a fuller skirt, with pleats or volume, pair it with a more structured top, or even a blazer or sweater. Or if your skirt is more of an A-line, add some different layers like a chunky sweater, a scarf, or a shawl.
Pair with a Mary Jane heel for a retro school look or basic pumps to keep things simple. A Midi skirt with leggings is perfect for Fall because of the layered look, but can also be worn in the summer!
I first discovered this idea on Shea Rasol, one of my favourite Muslim bloggers, and fell in love with how clean and chic it looks! It’s a bit different from the maxi skirt look while still being modest.
Hope you found some useful ideas on how to wear a midi skirt!
Keep smiling, beautiful girls.
