Everywhere you look, signs of school and Fall are here. Whether it’s back-to-school specials, slightly cooler weather, or just a feeling that holidays are almost over, there’s definitely a feeling of summer ending in the air. But that doesn’t mean that it’s actually over! There’s still several weeks of summer left, and there’s no need to get into the back-to-school or back-to-work spirit yet when the weather is still beautiful and there’s still lazy, warm hours left in the day.
So this Summer Fun Guide is an attempt to bring back summer, before the world of consumerism convinces us that it’s gone! So check out this list for some ideas on things to do in the summer before the holidays finish. Enjoy!
Plan a Picnic
Whether it’s with friends or family, plan a picnic! Take some time to enjoy the outdoors before the cold weather hits and you’re stuck indoors again. Pack some sandwiches, some fresh fruit, a deck or cards, a book or a board game, some friends, and head out! Head out to a park or somewhere with lots of trees or even your backyard! It’s a great way to de-stress and just relax, especially with the people you care about. Make sure you bring lots of sunscreen and take lots of pictures!
Go to a Fair or Carnival
If you have a fair or carnival taking place in your city or town, go! Fairs are an inexpensive way to spend the day and are perfect if you’re not into extreme rides or roller coasters. Grab a tub of old-fashioned popcorn, a twirl of cotton candy, and hop on the Ferris wheel when the sun goes down for an old-timey feel.
Attend a Convention/Conference
Just because you’re not in school (for the summer or anymore), doesn’t mean that you can’t learn in the summer! Research some conferences or conventions that take place in the summer, and learn something! Think about the things you’ve always wanted to learn, whether it’s Islamic knowledge, how to decorate a cake, or sew. Use your time wisely now that you have time and get off and expand your brain.
Visit an Old Bookstore
Old bookstores have a ton of treasures hidden within their shelves, yet people often don’t have the time to peruse them because they’re in a rush. But pick an afternoon when you don’t much to do and find an old bookstore that you’ve been wanting to visit. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, histories, or travel books, there’s something for everyone! Take the time to check out books or genres you’ve always been interested in but have never had time to look into.
Go on an Adventure
If you’re into extreme sports or just sports in general, try something new! If there’s something you’ve always wanted to try but have never had the time, do it now. Whether it’s going on a hike, white water rafting, or bungee jumping, be adventurous and try the things that you’ve always thought about doing in the summer. It might be scary, but you’ll get to do something different and exciting. So take the plunge!
Have a Slumber Party
Whether you’re in your teens, twenties, or thirties, chances are hanging out with your friends, eating junk food, watching movies, and staying up all night talking with your friends is a fun time. Make it official by sending out invitations to your closest friends (email or regular mail) and spend the night or even day together just hanging out and watching your favourite movies or TV shows. Plan some games, bake and cook together, and just spend time hanging out and talking. You might not have to relax and really hang out with your friends once summer ends, so take the opportunity to throw yourselves a party and enjoy!
If you have some spare time in the summer, volunteer! Giving back to the community is so important and a lot of us don’t do it enough. We get so wrapped up in ourselves and our problems we often forget those that are less fortunate. Whether it’s an hour of your day or a weekend of your week, give some of your time to organisations that you think are good causes. It’ll help you build character and give you perspective. No matter how little time you can give, it’s better than nothing, and at the end of the day, it’ll make you feel good knowing that you helped make the world a better place, even in a small way.
And there you have! So if you’re sitting around thinking that the summer is almost over or even if you’re bored with nothing to do, I hope this Summer Fun Guide gave you some ideas to enjoy the last few weeks of nice weather. So many of us get stuck living our lives on the internet, especially social media, and we don’t actually get out and do things! We’re only on this earth for a limited time, so make the most of it!
Hope you found this guide useful! Keep smiling, beautiful girls.
