Modest Monday: Little Black Dress

Little Black Dress
Hello lovelies! Welcome to another edition of Modest Monday. This week’s focus is the Little Black Dress.
One of the so-called staples of a woman’s closet, the Little Black Dress is seen as a necessary piece since it’s so versatile. But just because you choose to dress modestly doesn’t mean that this short, iconic number can’t do wonders for you! Let’s get started.

What we love about this look is it’s sheer versatility. You can wear it day or night, with a few tweaks, and still look great. This dress is fairly loose with long sleeves, which makes it quite modest.

We chose a similar A-line, long-sleeve dress for our look as well, which means that it requires very little extra coverage in the way of wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt inside or layering with a cardigan. You can pull it on and be good to go, without having to worry about layering up and covering up. The length is also modest without being frumpy; A-line is a flattering shape in almost all body shapes. Having a little black dress like this (or a few) in your closet is a good idea, since it’s a piece that is so versatile. Think of a black dress as a blank canvas: you can throw any other colour on top of it and still look fabulous!

Short dresses are great for girls who want to dress modestly, since they pretty much function as long tops! It can be tough finding long shirts on their own, so when looking for length in a shirt look for short dresses since they’ll provide the same function. You can find more inspiration in our Muslim Girl Staples post on the topic.

In the picture the model has worn it with black sheer tights, and so we decided to continue that look with black pants. It creates a uniform look, and again, use your black outfit as a palette for other colours to be highlighted on. So don’t worry about looking drab by wearing two black pieces; black never goes out of style and always looks chic and effortless. Instead of going with flared or baggy pants, we picked a pair that’s fairly straight and slim because the dress we picked is loose and A-line. You could also add a pair of fun coloured pants and have them be the statement.

You can use any colour for a pop with your little black dress, but we went with a beige/brown colour. We picked a scarf with black polka dots and black tassels, and a pair of booties in the same colour scheme.

The Little Black Dress is such a classic piece. It can be dressed up or down; you can wear it to work with a blazer or out for the evenings with sparkly jewellery. It’s also a modest one, because of it’s length which can be re-purposed as a long top. It’s also a colour that looks good on everyone and goes with everything. It’s a piece that’s essential to every modest girl’s closet!

We hope you found this week’s style inspirational! Join us next week for more modest fashion.

With love.
