Finding Your Path in Life

finding your path in life

As a student, it can be difficult finding your path in life. There are so many career paths and choices, and usually advice from family and friends, that it can be tricky focusing on what you want to do with your life.

You can get stuck between deciding whether money is a large factor in choosing your path or doing what you love. Ultimately, we would all being able to do what we love, while living comfortably, but that’s often not the case. So how do you decide?

Here are 3 tips on deciding whether career path you’re on is the right one for you.

1. Does it make you happy?

Many careers have long educational paths towards them, and before you decide to embark on that career path, think about whether that career will ultimately make you happy. If you are going to invest your time, energy, and money into something, it’s important to know whether the career you end up pursuing will make you happy. There is no point trying to become something if it makes you miserable at the end of the day. So when finding your path in life, think about the things that make you happy and try to incorporate them into your career choice.

You are the one who is going to have to live with the choices you make. Not your parents, not your family, not your friends. You. And while other people may have expectations of you and while you may want to make them happy, it’s important to remember that you have to be happy with what you choose.

2. Does it sustain you?

While being happy with what you choose to do is important, it’s also equally important to find something that is able to sustain you and the life you want to have. You cannot live off dreams alone (unfortunately). So try and balance both happiness and practicality when choosing your career path. Be realistic. Think about the life you want to have and make goals about how you want to achieve that.

You might discover that your dream of a lavish lifestyle is not feasible when picking what makes you happy. So try and balance. There is no way you can have it all, so decide on what will make you the most happy and what your number one priority is.

3. Does it challenge you?

Sure, you might be good at something, but that doesn’t mean that you should turn it into a career choice. While being good at what you do is important, you should also aim challenge yourself when finding your path in life. Think about what you can do and how you can take it to the next level. How can you help others? How can you change things? We should all strive for something more.

If you are not being challenged in your career path, then you might find yourself being bored. You might be the best at what you can do, but if you are not using your full potential, then what’s the point? So pick something that challenges you and stimulates your mind.

Asking yourself these 3 questions will hopefully help you in finding your path in life, or at least thinking about what you want to do. There is no right or wrong way to go about making this decision, and you might even change your mind later. That’s okay.

Be open to the idea of change. You may think you love something passionately now, but you never know what Allah has in store for you in life. So do the best you can for now.

Hope this helped!

With love.
