So often we get caught up in the romantic idea of love. It’s what we see in movies and hear in songs. No one sings songs about loving your family or makes movies about loving your friends. It’s just not very exciting.
But it’s what daily life is made up of. People who are there for us, day in and day out, who we don’t often appreciate. Because they’re there all the time we take them for granted, assuming they know that we love them.
Even if they know, tell them.
Love isn’t always about the grand gestures, the flowers, the moonlit walks on the beach, the songs sung in the rain. It’s about the little things, like your best friend calling you near midnight to ask if you’re okay after a horrible experience, it’s your brother leaving the key under the mat when no one’s home so you don’t get locked out, it’s your father making you breakfast every single day, it’s the coworker who knows after one word how you’re feeling, and it’s your grandpa who asks you who your day was.
All of these little things in our lives are filled with love. All we have to do is take a moment to realise it and appreciate it.
So take a minute and tell the people in your life that you love them. It doesn’t have to be cheesy or a grand gesture. Just a simple I love you will suffice to tell the people who care about you that you care too.
Our time in this world is short and we don’t know what Allah has planned for us. Don’t keep your feelings inside. Tell your friends and family that you love them.
