Many people go on vacation in the summer, and chances are your Facebook and Instagram feed is filled with pictures of friends and family jetting off to exotic and foreign places around the world! It can totally give you a serious case of wanderlust!
If you’re not going on vacation anywhere, you can feel like you’re stuck while everyone else is out having fun. But you don’t need to go anywhere fancy to have a good time. All you need are some good friends or family!
So check out this list of 5 fun things to do this summer.
The days are hot, and while lots of people cool off by going swimming, going boating is another fun way to cool down! If you live near a river or a lake, there’s bound to be some boating options available for you. There’s also lots of parks with man-made lakes or ravines as well that offer boating. Whether it’s kayaking, canoeing, or even sitting on a speed boat, it’s all fun! You might have never steered a boat yourself, or even with another person, but it might be worth learning and trying out.
SEE A MOVIE AT A DRIVE-IN
Drive-ins are reminiscent of an older time, and that’s what makes them so much fun! You get to have your own mini private theatre in your car, where you don’t have to worry about talking too loud or bringing too many snacks. There’s just something cool about watching a movie under the stars, and hopefully it’s also a time when the weather has cooled off a bit. So pack a picnic, get some pillows and blankets you can be cozy, grab some friends, and check out the listings at your local drive-in!
GO ON A ROAD TRIP
Maybe you can’t afford to go on an international getaway right now or maybe you don’t have time between work or school to get a long stretch of time off. No matter the reason, you can still do a bit of local travelling! Even if it’s just for the weekend, check out some towns or cities near you, even if they’re 5 to 6 hours away and plan a road trip with your family or close friends. The more people you have that can drive, the easier it is to split up the journey! Even if you don’t end up going very far, it’s still a nice opportunity to get away from everyday life. You never know what you might discover!
PLAN A PARTY
You don’t need an occasion to throw a party! Whether it’s a bbq, a picnic, or a potluck, have a get-together with your closest friends or family, either in your backyard or a nearby park. Summer isn’t very long, and so we should enjoy being outdoors as much as we can, before the biting cold returns! If you’re not in the mood to cook a big feast, make it a potluck and divvy up all the utensils, drinks, and food, so everything is covered. You can do an all-dessert party, or ask everyone to dress up according to a theme, just to make things even more fun. And if someone asks what the occasion is, just say LIFE.
TAKE A CLASS
Just cause you’re not in school during the summer, doesn’t mean you can’t learn! There’s so many things you can take a class for, all depending on your interest. So use your free time during the summer wisely to pick up a skill or hobby you’ve always wanted to learn. Whether it’s cooking, cake decorating, photography, pottery, knitting, baking, makeup, go out and learn it!
Just because you’re not travelling somewhere far away, doesn’t mean that your summer has to be boring! There’s so much you can still do if you put your mind to it. There’s absolutely no reason to be bored.
